The View review, Agadir, Morocco

There’s 10 km of promenade hemming a glorious soft sand beach of Agadir and The View is right by it. It’s an idyllic retreat location made even more so by the swirl of swimming pools looking tropical amid the palm trees and verdant islets.

The View is Agadir’s newest luxury hotel, in a whitewashed low-rise building with architecture sympathetic to the region. The decor is an elegantly simple mix of white, and turquoise blue with plenty of pale wood giving off a nautical or sunny aquatic vibe, especially in the spacious open-plan lobby.

A done-for-you check-in is a relaxed affair. All the admin was sorted while I relaxed with a cup of herbal tea enjoying the sea views through long windows.

Who for

The View is a stylish and attractive setting, perfect for romance. Families are welcome too and there is enough space to enjoy your desired experience. The View is well set up for business travellers and for conferences and events, with various sizes of rooms.

Accommodation

The View Agadir, bedroom

The View has 272 rooms including 50 suites all in the same colour scheme. They straddle wide open corridors of white walls and turquoise carpeting. It’s very stylish.

Each room has a balcony or terrace with floor-to-ceiling windows to fully enjoy the view of the blue of the Atlantic Ocean, the gardens, or the pool.

I was privileged to sleep in 60 m² The Privilege Suite. This had an ocean view, with a large bedroom and sitting room each with a wide-screen TV. Comfy seating and a dining room table make this space homely. The en suite comprises a large bath, two sinks and walk-in shower. There are generous, aromatic Hendiya toiletries, fluffy bathrobes, and cosy slippers.

Food

There are plenty of great dining options at The View which means you can have a different gourmet experience every day

The Chay Lounge, offers a peaceful cup of tea Moroccan style, where any type of tea (seemingly) is available.

Le Dielli the pool/beachside cocktail bar and light-bite outdoor restaurant are available for casual al fresco dining. The menu offers poke bowls, salads, skewers, burgers, and light doughy pizzas.

La Sensya is an Italian restaurant led by Head Chef Francesco Franzese. He won a Michelin Star at his previous restaurant. Large glass windows overlook the intrinsically tiled Terrace. The food is conventional Italian and entirely delicious. We had the Calamoro – grilled calamari with roasted peppers and toasted almonds and Capelli d’angelo, spaghettini with olive oil, garlic, herring caviar, anchovy sauce and seaweed powder.

Mima Kitchen is a spacious, plush restaurant clad in Moroccan-style decor. The chef cooks for the royal family in Dubai  and I can understand why, the food is delightfully spiced. The background music is courtesy of a duo of cool dude musicians singing Moroccan songs, one playing the oud and the other the drum. I ordered a chicken pastilla for the starter – its crusty pastry stuffed with chicken, saffron, and almonds with powdered sugar on one half. I followed this with their signature dish – a very hearty Tanjia marrakchia marinated beef shank preserved lemon.

Le V  is where breakfast is served. There’s several food stations including a cheese station with  20 varieties of cheeses. cooked eggs as you want them, pastries, fruit, a superfood buffet with spinach and broccoli and even a honey counter.

The Buddha-Bar and restaurant next door to the View offer a cabaret-style night out. The decor is plush with dim lighting casting shadows over boudoir-style red and black upholstery. Food Asian-inspired created with local ingredients alongside a bar with nightly shows of DJ sounds, acrobatics and dancing while the huge Buddha statue and, of course, the audience looks on.

Facilities

One of the many highlights of The View is its gorgeous Spa. There are massage and beauty treatments however, you are in Morocco and it would be criminal not to experience the Hammam. This is an hour or so of moisturising and scrubbing your skin in a hot room. The result is beautifully soft skin. Then later, relax in the spa jacuzzi or go for a swim. The surroundings are relaxing and so stylish.

Every week there is yoga by the pool or simply go for a walk along the beach promenade just beyond.

What’s Nearby?

There is a glorious private beach at the foot of The View, but there is also a huge souq, the biggest in Morocco, nearby. You can get anything here, from fruit and veg to toiletries, bags (can you spot the fakes?) and clothes. Men sit at sewing machines making or fixing clothes. There is a food court too full of Moroccan delights. It’s a great experience

Part of the backdrop is a mountain with the Kasbah on top of it with the words “God, Country, King” enscribed on it.

The hill in view from The View topped with the Kasbah

Cable cars take you up there and it’s worth the trip for views over Agadir and also to learn a little about the history of Agadir, the visitors wanting to colonise and how it grew from an earthquake. While there, you can purchase a camel ride.

VERDICT: The View in Agadir makes for a fun and rejuvenating holiday in beautiful surroundings with gourmet food and a sensational spa. It sounds corny but The View really is beautiful inside and out.
