Sarah Hyland Loves These Kohl’s Travel Essentials

Whether she’s starring in the hit ABC sitcom Modern Family or, most recently, taking center stage as Audrey in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, Sarah Hyland is a busy woman. In fact, the 33-year-old just joined forces with Kohl’s on its “Where Family Comes First” campaign to show the many dimensions of a family unit and celebrate every phase of life — a full-circle experience after her first Candie’s campaign with the brand back in 2016.

The life of a jet-setting star calls for not only a streamlined packing list, but also the perfect go-to airport outfit, and in an interview with Travel + Leisure, Hyland had no shortage of suggestions (although we did put her on to traveling with AirTags). Luckily, her favorite affordable in-flight essentials are all available at Kohl’s for under $100 to help you channel the experience of flying first-class. So, keep reading to find her top eight travel must-haves, from luxe skincare to elevated athleisure.

Sarah Hyland’s Airport Outfit Staples

Sonoma Goods for Life Soft Bomber Jacket

While a fan of comfortable travel outfits, Hyland admitted that she “[doesn’t] want to go to the airport in pajamas or sweats,” adding that she’s most drawn to “elevated athleisure” during lengthy flights — although she would be doing much more if it was up to her. “I do miss the days where people dressed up to go on a plane,” she shared. “There will be a day where we’re wearing dresses and heels on a plane again and I’m all for that.”

Until that day, Hyland swears by this cozy bomber jacket from Sonoma Goods to keep her warm in-flight and take even the simplest outfits up a notch. It’s available in three stunning, fall-ready colors, and it’s on sale for just $40 right now.

Tek Gear Essential Soft 7/8 Leggings

A high-quality pair of leggings should be comfortable and cute, and Hyland loves this “really great” pair from Tek Gear as part of her go-to airport uniform. Currently on sale for $20, these flattering high-rise leggings look effortless from the gym to the TSA line; they’re made from a breathable blend of polyester and spandex that feels lightweight while remaining compressive. Hyland styles them with a “good casual tee” to create an outfit that can be worn time and time again.

Adidas VL Court 3.0 Shoes

Kohl’s

If sneakers are your go-to airport shoes, rest assured that you’re in good company: Hyland also tops off her favorite athleisure looks with these Adidas Court sneakers that you can slip on and off for an “easy breezy” travel look. The interiors of these shoes are fitted with the brand’s Cloudfoam insoles that provide impressive cushioning to each step, while a convenient pull-on design streamlines your airport experience even if you don’t have TSA PreCheck. And while Hyland wears them while flying, they’re also stylish enough to become your go-to sneakers for the duration of your trip as well.

Sarah Hyland’s Packing Essentials

Heys 5-piece Pastel Packing Cube Set

Kohl’s

It should come as no surprise that a seasoned traveler like Hyland would be prepared with handy packing hacks, and at the top of her list is a good set of packing cubes. After revealing that she always makes a point of unpacking as soon as she arrives at her destination, Hyland added, “I really heavily rely on packing cubes so it’s easy to unpack and everything is already organized and good to go, even if it’s just for 24 hours.”

This set of five packing cubes from Heys made it onto Hyland’s top Kohl’s picks list, and it’s really no wonder why. Each bag is a slightly different size to accommodate everything from your bulkiest sweaters to your lightest tops, and they’re made with a durable yet lightweight fabric that can withstand consistent travel without ripping. They even feature convenient handles that make unpacking a breeze — and they’re on sale for $54.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm

Kohl’s

Personal item essentials vary from person to person, and Hyland revealed that enjoying an exhaustive skincare and beauty routine is her favorite in-flight ritual for remaining calm and comfortable. At the top of her list is Summer Fridays’ Lip Butter Balm. “It gets so dry on a plane, so I love [this],” she raved. The moisturizing formula contains powerhouse ingredients like shea and murumuru seed butters to soothe lips in need of hydration, and it even comes in seven stunning shades.

Another in-flight hydration must-have of Hyland? “Any reusable water bottle — I need the most water when I travel.”

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

Kohl’s

Another essential piece of Hyland’s expansive airplane skincare routine is a soothing face mask. “I’m that person that does a full-on face mask on the flight and it scares the flight attendants sometimes,” she admits. However, aside from sheet masks, the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask provides all the hydration to your skin without frightening airline workers — and it even comes in the perfect, travel-sized 1-ounce container that will easily slide into your personal item for use in the sky. With skin-soothing ingredients like niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin, it’s basically a big glass of water for your complexion.

One/Size On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray

Kohl’s

Hurrying from a flight to an event requires a beauty routine that can be done in the car or in the plane bathroom, and Hyland noted that the One/Size setting spray can always be found in her personal item to keep her makeup in check regardless of her busy schedule. “You need to set [your makeup], especially if you’re rushing,” she says.

This waterproof, long-wear setting spray comes in a travel-friendly 1-ounce can and helps to create a flawless skin finish while locking your makeup in place for up to 16 hours. It contains soothing ingredients like green tea extract and witch hazel, and it’s well-suited for a wide range of skin types.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush

Kohl’s

Products that can play multiple roles in your routine are ideal for paring down your in-flight essentials, and Hyland revealed that her favorite beauty hack is using the Rare Beauty liquid blush all over her face to cut corners on her makeup. “You can use it as not only a blush but also an eyeshadow,” she notes. “It’s great if you’re coming from the airport and you’ve already done your skincare — you can just do your makeup with [it].” The creamy and hydrating formula does wonders on parched skin while lasting for up to 12 hours, plus it comes in the perfect travel-sized packaging.
