Flying From the West Coast to Switzerland Is About to Get Easier — What to Know

Edelweiss, a Switzerland-based airline that is owned by Lufthansa, recently announced new twice-weekly flights from Seattle’s SeaTac Airport to Zurich Airport.

The flights will operate every Monday and Saturday and depart Seattle at 4:25 p.m. arriving into Zurich at 11:45 a.m. the next day. The return flights will also operate on Monday and Saturday from Zurich to Seattle. The Seattle route is an addition to existing Edelweiss routes in Denver, Las Vegas, and Tampa Bay, Florida.

The flights will begin on June 2, 2025, providing west coast travelers an opportunity to enjoy the hiking and beauty of Switzerland and the surrounding areas during the summer. From Zurich, passengers can either stay and enjoy the largest city in Switzerland, or connect to over 90 destinations that Edelweiss flies to ranging from Agadir, Morocco, or Bari, Italy. The airline also flies throughout Croatia, France, Greece, Ireland, Spain, and Turkey.

The airline will also begin a new route from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Zurich on July 3, 2025. Tickets for both flight routes were not immediately available for purchase on Edelweiss’s website.

“This nonstop service offers a convenient link to Zurich, at the heart of Europe, while also bringing a significant number of Swiss travelers to Seattle and the Pacific Northwest,” Edelweiss CEO Bernd Bauer said in the release.

Edelweiss is described as Switzerland’s leisure airline, and offers a variety of experiences in-flight including Business Class, Economy Max, and Economy Class. For the new Seattle to Zurich routes, Edelweiss will operate the flight on a Airbus A340-300 which has a passenger capacity of 214, where 27 seats are lie-flat business class. The economy cabin is equipped with a 11.1″ high-definition touchscreen entertainment system, which has over 250 pieces of content to watch.

Edelweiss is owned by Lufthansa Group, and is described as a “sister airline” of Swiss International Airlines, which is also owned by the German company. Edelweiss has been continuing to grow as international travel demand hits new records. The airline provided air travel for 2.7 million passengers in 2023, which was an increase of 2.2 million passengers in 2022.
