Delta Is Shaking Up Its NYC Schedule This Fall

Delta Air Lines is shuffling its schedule out of New York City this fall by cutting three different routes and adding one more.

The airline will cut flights from both LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Connecticut, Maryland, and Montreal, as well as add a flight to Tennessee, a Delta spokesperson confirmed to Travel + Leisure. The schedule changes will go into effect in October.

To start, Delta will launch flights between LGA and Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) in Tennessee on Oct. 7. Flights will start at $224 one-way, according to a Google Flights search.

Delta previously operated flights between the two cities, but they were paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to CHA. The flights will be operated daily on a 76-seat CRJ-900 aircraft.

Currently, there are no other non-stop routes from the Tennessee airport to New York City.

“The schedules will be very accommodating for business travelers who need to fly out and return the same day,” April Cameron, Chattanooga Airport’s president and chief executive, said in a statement. “Delta has always been a tremendous partner, and we are deeply grateful for their continued confidence in our city and region.”

On Oct. 8, Delta will then end its current service between LGA and Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport (BDL), the Delta spokesperson confirmed.

In addition, Delta will end service between JFK and both Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) on Oct. 26.

According to Delta, the route shakeup is part of the carrier’s seasonal schedule adjustments and is being done to re-allocate resources with customer demand.

The schedule changes come on the heels of the CrowdStrike IT meltdown during which Delta was forced to cancel thousands of flights. The airline has since agreed to reimburse travelers who were forced to book a flight on a different airline as well as for rental car or hotel expenses.
